An invoice tells a customer what they owe before they pay. A receipt shows what they paid for after the sale. If you’re registered for GST, a receipt can also work as a tax invoice if it includes the required details.
Under Australian Consumer Law, you must give proof of the sale for goods or services worth $75 or more (excluding GST). For smaller sales, you must provide one within 7 days if the customer asks.
